Open to suggestions

This is going to be short because we have friends arriving for dinner in a matter of minutes. Again, the day went by and I forgot I had to post, but now that I’ve remembered and since we’re almost midway through NaBloPoMo, I thought I’d do an assessment. So far, I’m really enjoying it. I like the discipline of having to post every day. Take on something like this and my work ethic/Protestant guilt kicks in to the extent that it doesn’t really occur to me that I could choose not to post. This is a definite trait of mine, that can work with me (I find it almost unthinkable to miss a deadline) and against me (if I take on too much, I am slow to realise I could give something up).

I also liked the ‘forced’ creativity, such as it is. I have certainly sat down to face a blank screen with a feeling of near desperation, and had to wring out each word like coins from a miser, but still, I like the challenge of it. Ideas for blog posts are popping into my head at any old time of the day and I’ve found myself keeping a notebook at hand (ooh! excuse to buy new stationery!) so that I can jot them down. Often they turn into nothing, fade away like the morning mist, but sometimes I think there is something I can work on.

Anyway, for the second half of the month, I’m adding a twist to the challenge, if anyone wants to take me up on it. Tell me something you’d like me to blog about and I’ll do my best. (Ideally not my suggestions for the solution to world peace etc, since that might take research I don’t have time to do.) Otherwise, it’ll be more of the same… Sorry, but – head full of bits of fluff that blew in by mistake.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to check the chocolate mousse; pour another glass of red; and try to remember not to drink too much so that I am compos mentis for the Great Blogger Meet Up tomorrow.

    Some ideas:
    - what are some of the oddities of American life that you have observed since moving here?
    - what do you miss about living in England?
    - The great blogger meet-up

Well, besides that hangover story that you think you already posted, first, if you’d like, you can do my horror meme (found somewhere on my blog under “horror meme”), because I’m dying to know your answers. Then I’d like a post on your best “lost in translation” moment since moving stateside (because we both know perfectly well that Americans and Brits do not speak the same language). And then you can do a post on how you became the brave sort who would actually take blog post requests. I cower in a corner at the mere thought of doing such a thing!

Cam – thanks for the suggestions, I think I can cover those.

Emily – I must have missed your horror meme, I shall search it out.

I want to hear a shoe story.

When I was posting every day I liked the forced creativity aspect of it too — there was something very fun about being able to pull something out of my head each and every day. It’s satisfying. But also exhausting …

Here’s a question — you’ve read a lot of mysteries, so what are the top five(five or so … pick a number … 10 is good too) you would recommend to someone who isn’t familiar with the genre?

    Boxofbooks – You’re. I’ll think of a good one.

Dorothy – And you’re on too. This’ll be easy.

Thanks for all the great ideas, everyone!

How about a post on your favorite books from childhood? Or on the first pair of high heels you bought? And I am sure any of the above ideas would make for good posts too.

P.S. I like the new look!

ZM – I will add your suggestions to the list. And thanks, I like it too.
