Holding out for a hero

Wanted: resoundingly masculine hero

Reader who has just finished vol 2 of Proust seeks counterbalance. Looking for tall, attractive-in-a-dangerous-sort-of-way man of uncertain age, who has lived hard and has the scars to prove it. Cynical, coolly-assessing eyes, ruthless mouth. Able to handle car/horse/variety of weaponry with panache and effortless skill. Usually armed, morally ambiguous. May have independent wealth or be available for hire. Sardonic humour a plus. Should enjoy travelling (possibly to countries behind the Iron Curtain, or to Napoleonic Spain, not necessarily under his own name). Dress unimportant but should have the sort of looks women just can’t resist. Brief encounter considered, long term commitment preferred.

Applicants should apply via comments, and will be carefully vetted for suitability.

I've run out of books. Again.

  1. Sounds to me like you’re in need of re-kindling a relationship with Flashman (or if you blew him off the first time, because you knew what an insensitive cad he was, taking a second look at him).

  2. Emily – Flashman, you say? It has been a while. I wonder what (or more likely, who) the old bounder is up to this time.

  3. I’m intrigued about who would fit the bill here. My immediate thought was James Bond (but I’ve only seen the films rather than read the books).

  4. Marcy – I hadn’t thought about Marlowe, I was thinking along more swashbuckling lines. But you could be right.

Pete – Bond absolutely fits the bill, but alas, I have read all the books times without number.
